Council of Lutheran Women’s Annual Luncheon – March 19, 2024
2024 will be the 60th Anniversary of the Council of Lutheran Women. March 19, 2024 was the date for the 2024 Annual Luncheon which was held at The Mirage, located at 16980 18 Mile Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48038. The entertainment was Living Truth 2 which is a Christian faith-based husband and wife team with a diverse musical style performing approximately 50 concerts each year. The cost of the luncheon was with $1 going to the food banks and $1 going to the seminarians. Women of the year will be celebrated at the luncheon.

The Council of Lutheran Women’s Fall Meeting was held on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church located at30003 Ryan Road, Warren, MI. The meeting started at 9:45 a.m. with opening devotions followed by the business meeting which will include the inter-congregational organizations an opportunity to update guests on their needs. The guest speakers was the Rev. Thomas Dunseth and Deaconess Diana Rice from St. Martin School for the Deaf in Dearborn. The curriculum is designed to meet emotional and social needs of deaf and hard of hearing students through instruction in American Sign Language anCoordinator at 734-323-8008.

The Council of Lutheran Women’s Spring Meeting was on Monday, April 17, 2023 at Historic Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 1345 Gratiot Avenue, Detroit, Michigan. Registration began at 9:15 a.m. followed by opening devotions at 9:45 a.m. A salad bar was served for lunch. After lunch Jen Boos from Elli’s House shared a slide presentation of Elli’s House mission on behalf of founder Deb Ellinger.

The 59th annual Council of Lutheran Women’s Luncheon was held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. The luncheon took place at Burton Manor, located at 27777 Schoolcraft, Livonia, MI. The Women of the Year from supporting congregations and auxillaries were honored. The luncheon started at 11:00 a.m. The guest speaker was Ida Mall, former Lutheran Women’s Missionary League President from 1991 to 1995. The cost was $32 with $1 going to the food banks and $1 going to the seminarians.

David Reed from the Orphan Grain Train, a volunteer network that shares personal and material resources with needy people in America and around the world. Registration starts at 9:15 a.m. The meeting starts at 9:45 a.m. Opening devotions start at 9:45 a.m. followed by the business meeting which will include the inter-congregational organizations an opportunity to update guests on their needs and news. Ingathering of requested items will be collected for our mission partners. Lunch will be served following the meeting.

Megan partners with Detroit Lutheran churches to teach discipleship to families in new ways that tap into the strengths of urban churches. Opening devotions start at 9:45 a.m. followed by the business meeting which will include the elections of officers and will provide the inter-congregational organizations an opportunity to update guests on their needs and news. Ingathering of requested items will be collected for our mission partners. Lunch will be served following the meeting.

The 58th Annual Council of Lutheran Women’s Luncheon was on Tuesday, March 15th at the Macomb Sports & Export Center located at 14500 E. 12 Mile Road, Warren, MI. The Women of the Year were honored and the Women of the Year from 2020 and 2021 were recognized due to the cancellation of the 2020 luncheon and the all-virtual luncheon of 2021. The speaker was Rev. Dr. Gregory Seltz, Director for the Lutheran Center for Religious Liberty.

The 57th Annual Council of Lutheran Women’s Luncheon took place on Tuesday, March 23rd. It has been decided to switch to an all virtual event this year due to the COVID 19 concerns. Humorist Jan Struck will be the guest speaker. We still want to recognize the 2019 WOY that we were unable to honor last year when we were forced to cancel the 2020 Luncheon, plus any new WOY additions submitted for 2020. In addition to the Recognition of the Women of the Year, the annual Luncheon is the main fund-raiser for supporting the Council’s Scholarship Program, two Detroit Food Banks, Operation Layette and an opportunity for an in-gathering of donations for several other area ministries that are also Inter-congregational Members of the Council. The needs for these efforts has not stopped and in some cases has increased.
