UPCOMING EVENTS

Camp Restore Detroit Fund Raiser – October 14

Camp Restore Detroit houses and feeds volunteer groups coming to the Detroit area to work and assist churches as needed.  Their first fund-raising event is Sunday, October 14 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 23801 Kelly Rd, Eastpointe, Michigan.  Tickets are $25.

 

Council of Lutheran Women’s Presidents Tea – October 15

Invitations to the Presidents Tea were mailed out to the President and Representative the Council currently has on file for each member congregation and organization.  Please remember to RSVP to Hospitality coordinator Sheri Comeford at sjcomeford@nullwowway.com or 586.405.1307 by Thursday,  October 11 if you are accepting our invitation so our hostesses for this event can adequately prepare.

LWML District Dearborn/Downriver Fall Rally – October 20

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Michigan District Dearborn/Downriver Zone Rally will be held on October 20 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church located at 16700 Pennsylvania Road, Southgate, Michigan.   Cynthia Kahn from POBLO will be the guest speaker. 

 

LWML Michigan District Macomb South Zone Rally – October 27

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Michigan District Macomb South will be having its Fall Rally on Saturday, October 27 starting at 9:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church located at 38900 Harper Ave, Clinton Township, Michigan.  The guest speaker is from Worship Anew.  Registration is $7.

 

LWML Dearborn Downriver Women’s Retreat – November 3

There will be a women’s retreat of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Christ the King Lutheran Church located at 16700 Pennsylvania Road, Southgate, Michigan. The guest speaker is Lynn Corker from Women of the Peral.  Registration begins at 8:00 and the retreat runs until 4:00 pm. The registration deadline is October 20th and the cost is $20. Lutheran Heritage Foundation Dinner/Reception – November 10

The Lutheran Heritage Foundation (LHF) translates, publishes, distributes, and introduces Luther’s Small Catechism and other Lutheran materials to organizations around the world.  They will be having a dinner and reception on Saturday, November 10 for 25 years of the Word at Work.  The event is from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will take place at The Mirage located at 16980 18 Mile Road,  Charter Township of Clinton, Michigan.  RSVP by October 12: (800) 554-0723 or email LHF at info@nulllhfmissions.org with the names of everyone in your party.  For more information go to https://www.lhfmissions.org/25anniversary/ .

Manor Christmas a Concordia University in Ann Arbor – November 20-December 2

The Concordia University Guide is sponsoring a Manor Christmas at Concordia University located at 4090 Geddes Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan.  The event runs from November 20 through December 2.  It includes tours of the historic Earhart mansion, the Festival of Trees, Christkindlmarkt, entertainment and children’s activities.  There is also a pre-event on November 17 and 18 at the Greenhouse on campus.  Tickets are $5 with the proceeds going to the Concordia Guild Scholarship fund and will be available beginning at 1:00 p.m. on October 29.  For more information email manorchristmas@nullcuaa.edu or call 734-995-7509.  For information is also available at http://www.cuaa.edu/manorchristmas .

Mission Opportunities Short Term (MOST) – January 5-17, 2019

MOST is looking for volunteers to be part of a mission trip to Tanzania over January 5-17, 2019.  The team will be teaching the Tanzanians how to make feminine hygiene pads.  They do not send out many sewing teams so if sewing is one of your skills, this trip might be for you.  For detailed information click here.

Volunteers Needed to Tutor At-Risk Children

Gifts for All God’s Children (GFAGC) is a non-profit organization giving and supporting at-risk children.  Connecting Kids to Christ (CKC) begins on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at East Bethlehem Lutheran Church located at 3510  E. Outer Drive, Detroit, Michigan.  They are seeking volunteers to tutor one day a week.  St. Philip Lutheran Church located at 2884 E. Grand Blvd., Detroit, Michigan is starting a CKC on Wednesdays.  GFAGC is also looking for help to distribute gifts at Christmas to at-risk children.  For more information go to http://www.giftsforallgodschildren.org

 

LWML Michigan District Dearborn/Downriver Zone Monthly Bible Study

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Dearborn/Downriver Zone is resuming its monthly Bible Study on the second Saturday of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Books are $10.  The Bible Study is at Christ the King Lutheran Church located at 16700 Pennsylvania Road, Southgate, Michigan.

Lutheran Senior Walkers at the Detroit Zoo on Tuesdays

Lutheran Senior Walkers will be meeting at the Detroit Zoo on Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. . Meet at the benches in front of the Wildlife Interpretive Gallery. Look for smiling seniors wearing walking shoes.  Admission to the Zoo is needed.
